Clients' and Caregivers' Comments

I met Fay when she gave a class on deepening one's conversations with elders.  Right away I knew that Fay was dealing with a whole other level of relating to elders that most caregivers do not.
She discussed the elder years as a distinct developmental phase, in which the individual is trying to come to terms with certain key issues in relationship to the life that they lived, which they are now seeking to bring closure to in this final period of life.  And she saw those who care for elders as being in a position to support those processes, if they pay attention and lend themselves as a listening ear and a validating conversational partner.
Fay wasn't just paying lip service to elders' inner dignity-which is everywhere the current buzzphrase nowadays--but actively seeking to actually do that.  And it spoke of an ability Fay has to peer beneath surface presentations to look at what's really going on and to meet people there.
In short, if you are looking for elder interaction that goes beyond the surface platitudes that are very common these days, combined with a solid knowledge of the physical needs that elders have, Fay's the one to hire!                            MB
